La Fattoria (“the farm” in Italian) is set in a beautiful working orchard in the Perth Hills, just up the road from Core Cider. This traditional trattoria has a cellar door and restaurant, with delightful views over the lush lawns, vines and orchard.

History of La Fattoria

Owners Eric and Lucy have resided on the property since 1945 and are the third generation to work the farm. Originally Eric’s grandparents emigrated to Perth from Sinagra, Sicily over 70 years ago and cultivated the land into an orchard. With a catch cry ‘Conversation with Italy’ you can be assured La Fattoria’s food and wine is deeply connected to Italian family, culture and tradition.

The La Fattoria Grounds

When you arrive at La Fattoria, walking past the olive trees and old historic homestead, through the working packing shed you’ll meet Lucy. We were greeted as if we were old friends, which really made us feel really welcome – just like visiting a friend’s place for lunch.

You can sit undercover in the deck area, or at a table in the garden for a fully immersive experience.

Nonna’s Table Experience

Good friends enjoying great food. That’s very much the heart behind La Fattoria’s Nonna’s Table, a set-menu experience overlooking beautiful orchards and vines. A tribute to Eric’s Nonna it includes rustic Italian driven dishes featuring homegrown or locally sourced seasonal produce. It’s all about eating what’s in season and enjoying it with family and friends.

Wine tasting the Sparkling Brachetto at La Fattoria

Every experience begins with wine tasting to understand the Italian grape varieties that La Fattoria grow. We were amazed at how many great Italian wines are produced by this little vineyard. We also thought the price of a glass or bottle of wine with our meal was really reasonable.

Only available with advanced bookings, Nonna’s Table takes around three hours for the experience. It is self-paced and you never feel rushed. You are encouraged to enjoy the nature garden, vineyard and orchard views between courses. And to stay awhile and wander through the farm shop after your meal. Local produce, homegrown jams and chutneys, their wines, cider, apple juice and eggs are available for purchase.

Summer Menu board at La Fattoria

The new Summer Menu was like taking an Italian food journey. First course was a Chisciol, a tasty mini buckwheat pancake topped with fresh rocket.

Next was a classic antipasto platter – yum!

The main, Chicken Agrodolce with cranberries and pinenuts accompanied by Baked Polenta and Peach Caprese Salad with a red wine vinegrette. Every mouthful had incredible flavours.

Finally, dessert was a Cassatina made with ricotta cream, chocolate and vanilla custard and decorated with a sour cherry and marzipan leaf. 🙌

All in all, we very much enjoyed dining at La Fattoria. Everything we ate was delicious, the setting was beautiful and it was a very relaxed lunch with some great friends. What more could you want?
