We love a good afternoon tea! How could you not enjoy drinking bubbly and indulging in delicious savouries and naughty sweet treats? Whether it’s for a special occasion, or just getting together with your friends a special Afternoon Tea is the perfect way to feel sophisticated.

Perth has some great restaurants offering High Tea. We’ve previously visited the Hyatt for their Buffet High Tea and The Stage at the Pan Pacific for their Free Flowing High Tea. But always on the lookout for the best High Tea in Perth, we were keen to try the Ritz-Carlton’s Hearth Restaurant for their Signature Afternoon Tea.

Where is Hearth Restaurant?
Located on Elizabeth Quay in the Perth CBD, Hearth has a beautiful dining space that is light and glamorous in tones of navy and white. With stunning picturesque riverside views, the relaxed and elegant style of the venue matches perfectly with its fine dining approach.

Our experience of the Signature Afternoon Tea
We were warmly greeted on arrival. Once seated, the staff explained the menu which includes a few different beverage package options. The standard price is paired with Seven Seas Tea from Margaret River or a coffee or hot chocolate if you prefer. In addition, you can also select a glass or two-hour flow of Howard Park Petit Jeté sparkling wine or Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage.

The Afternoon Tea is a culinary experience of two courses – one savoury and one sweet. Both are served on Hearth’s unique three-tier timber stand and each dish features local Western Australian produce that is plated exquisitely.

The savoury menu was flavourful and divinely presented. These were the four dishes on offer (note – dietary requirements of gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan can be requested):
- Spiced pumpkin and ginger tart, wild puffed rice (our favourite)
- Smoked lamb, harrisa, celery remoulade
- Cured ocean trout, citrus mayo, pickled radish
- Rosemary and olive oil madeleine

For the sweet treats, every dish was divine. Here’s the menu:
- Buttermilk scone, whipped vanilla cream, seasonal preserves
- Strawberry basil tart, basil almond cream custard, fresh strawberry, basil
- Paris brest, choux paste, infused hazelnut, whipped ganache, salted caramel sauce
- Finger lamington, coconut ganache, davidson plum gel
The Scones were so light, soft and fluffy and the strawberry preserve was delicious. The Paris Brest Choux had an incredible hazelnut flavour. The Finger Lamington looked almost too pretty to eat and was scrumptious. But our favourite was the Strawberry Basil Tart which tasted just like summer in your mouth.

The service at the Signature Afternoon Tea was incredible, with Hearth’s wait team regularly checking in with us, topping up our drinks and referring to us by name (such a lovely touch!!). Price-wise, it’s what you’d expect to pay for a fine dining experience. We truly enjoyed every mouthful and walked out of the restaurant feeling very special.

In our opinion, Hearth’s Signature Afternoon Tea has to be one of the best in Perth. Held every Saturday and Sunday at 12pm or 3pm in the Hearth Restaurant. Or Monday to Friday at 12pm-4pm in Hearth Lounge, it’s a glamorous experience perfect for a special occasion.
